Course Description:
Based on concepts of sustainability and green construction practices specified in Turkish and EU laws, green building techniques and their rating systems are analyzed. Beside utilizing costs/benefits analysis, life cycle costs, embodied energy evaluation and overall sustainability issues will be scrutinized. Basic methods of green building design, techniques, documentation and certification will be analyzed considering current rating system practice.
Course Objectives:
This course is built around analysis of concepts of green buildings and green building rating systems; to inform on utilizing costs/benefits analysis, life cycle costs, embodied energy evaluation and overall sustainability. The course also aims to analyze the rating systems used worldwide based on their , techniques, documentation and certification systems.
Teaching Policy:
3 hours of lecturing per week. The course consists of presentations based on theoretical knowledge, discussions, and a case study to be analyzed. The content of the case study will be announced at the beginning of each semester. Each student fails in case of not attending %30 of total course hours.
